Public Approval of Labor Unions Dwindled Again

Public Approval of Labor Unions Dwindled Again

2022 saw a record high 71% public approval of unions. That number dropped to 70% in 2024 and has dropped again to about 68% in 2025.

While public approval ratings are dropping, support for unions has grown across all political affiliations since 2016: 41% (R); 90% (D); 69% (I).

These high numbers of support are juxtaposed with union membership continuing to be at its lowest point in decades.

Why do you think that is?
